Land Rover isn’t saying much about the next Velar yet, but the prototypes are starting to do the talking. The 2027 Range Rover Velar has been spied wearing heavy camouflage, and even through the disguise, it’s clear that this isn’t just a facelift. The shift looks deeper than that.
Photographers have already snapped the refreshed Range Rover recently, yet this time, the focus lands on the second-generation Velar. It’s expected to debut later this year. What stands out immediately is how different it seems to approach its proportions.
Exterior
The front is smoother looking with almost rounded off edges as compared on the current model. The grille is completely covered, which matches its electric intentions, and the Headlights are significantly slim. It has a clamshell hood still, though with a broad lower intake under it to form the front fascia, although the general impression is more flowing than aggressive.

In profile, the changes become more apparent. The windscreen is more sharply raked, flowing into a roofline that drops quickly toward the rear; it gives the Velar a sportier posture, although that silhouette could come with compromises in cargo space or rear headroom. Nothing official confirms that, but the geometry suggests it’s possible.
Small details start to fill in the picture. The charging port is mounted at the rear. The door handles sit flush against the body. Even through camouflage, the surfaces appear deliberately smoothed out.
At the back, things get slightly unconventional. The liftgate has an upright tail design, and a roof-mounted camera is visible. That placement hints at the possibility of removing a traditional rear window, though this hasn’t been confirmed. A spoiler integrates into the rear design, wraparound taillights stretch across the corners, and the bumper keeps things simple with horizontal reflectors.

Powertrain Details
Underneath, the new Velar will ride on Land Rover’s electrified modular architecture (EMA) and will be built at the Halewood plant. While the company has been focusing on promoting the Range Rover Electric, the Velar could share much of its hardware. If that proves true, it may carry a 117 kWh battery pack along with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing around 542 hp (404 kW / 550 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. Multiple configurations are said to be possible.
It’s still early, and much remains hidden under a patterned wrap. But one thing seems clear enough: the Velar isn’t just evolving. It’s repositioning itself.
